Retaining Walls
Some options for retaining walls are: timber, block, block and plaster, stone (either solid or stone facade), concrete (keystone, crib or ground concrete).
Retaining walls will always be constructed with drainage in behind and backfilled with scoria. It is important to check with the local council once the plan for the retaining wall has been finalised to clarify whether a building permit, or resource consent is required.
In most areas it is OK to build to 1.5mtrs high to within one metre of the boundary without requiring building or resource consent.
